History

The Catholic Grandparents Association (CGA) Philippines traces its beginnings from the 7th World Meeting of Families which took place in June 2012 in Milan, Italy. Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, who was then Bishop of the Diocese of Daet and among the speakers at the event, met Ms. Catherine Wiley from Ireland, founder of the Catholic Grandparents Association International. This initial encounter gave rise to the idea of organizing the first Catholic Grandparents Association in the Philippines and in Asia.

Thus, on July 25-26, 2013, the Catholic Grandparents Association was officially launched in the country through the First Grandparents Pilgrimage held in Daet, Camarines Norte. The event was graced by Ms. Catherine Wiley together with her husband Mr. Stewart Wiley and by Rev. Fr. Melvin Castro, Executive Secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Family and LIfe. Delegates from different dioceses were also in attendance.
